Cornwall B 20-24 Bristol B

At Bodmin Snooker & Pool Club, 13th September 2009

Match ReportThis was always going to be a tough game on paper.  Going down to Cornwall always brings its fair share of drop outs and this season was no different.  FIVE players in all across the A & B teams is a disappointing show from any team, least of all Bristol.  However although we lost players to the A’s I said on the day that we are more than strong enough and capable enough of beating this team and you didn’t let me down.  Although I must say I was not impressed with the finish.  We took the confidence of the massive win against Devon into the start of this match, taking the first and second sets 7-4 to go into the half way stage 14-8 up.  We continued into that vein of form going 5-1 in set 3 to stretch the lead to 19-9.  We then lost the last 5 frames of that set to lose it 6-5, Cornwall reducing the deficit to 19-14.  We then staggered over the line in set 4 following another 6-5 loss, winning the game 24-20.  A great game to win as always.  But to lose the latter part of this game 11-5 is a no go area as far as im concerned.  However im putting it down to a temporary blip and overall im chuffed to bits were one step closer to Yarmouth.  80% of our job is done and the remaining 20% should be clear cut if you all keep your heads on.

Man of the MatchA strange one as there were no 4 out of 4’s for this game.  That’s the first time in a long time!  There were some solid displays from players getting three out of fours. These being Shane Thompson, Jason Gilmour, Mark Wood, Mick Dagostino and Danny Rosewarne, who is awarded man of the match this month.  You could see Dannys head was on and he was well up for it.  He was unlucky not to get his four  but it was one of his best performances of the season. Well done mate.

Next Match – Up against Dorset who are sitting in 5th place.  We’ve never lost to this team in the last 5 years, home or away and I don’t intend on starting now.  The only thing that can get in our way is ourselves.  We need to treat these guys exactly the same way as we would treat any Devon or Cornwall player.  If you all do that, we will score 30 against them.  Heads on guys, no complacency! Finish the job.
