Bristol B 32-12 Devon B

At The Three Crowns, Bristol, 9th August 2009

Match Report – WOW, yes WOW.  I can tell you now this result has and will continue to send shock waves around all 7 regions for the rest of this season.  Ive had comments from Surrey and Leicester off the back of this one. Im sure there worried about us and its now up to us to finish the job get to Yarmouth and show these boys who the real champions are.  Another pre match talk was given and I asked us to take it a set at a time. I wanted us to win this set by set. 4 lots of best of 11 matches and wins in all four sets would see us take at least 24 points. You certainly listened to that and we went even further. Our confidence grew after each frame. Devon’s best effort came in frame 5 and 6, this was the only time Devon won two frames in a row. Remarkable!! After that we steam rolled them into oblivion, taking the first set 7-4 was our worst set of the four! A second set 8-3 win saw us 15-7 up at half time.  It didn’t get any better for them, losing the third set 9-2. This meant we wrapped the match up after just the 32nd frame when the score was 23-9. A final set 8-3 win (would have been 9-2 had Adi not fluked that red, stopping my four out of four!! – im not bitter) saw us get a massive 32-12 victory.  A stunned Devon couldn’t quite believe what happened to them and fair do’s they did give us some massive credit at the end. This was a Wiltshire scoreline, yet it was against the mighty Devon. You cant say no more than that.  Its as close to perfection your going to get in a 44 frame match with 22 players against such top opposition, I cant do this report justice.  What does give it justice is that we turned Devons loudest player, Pepsi, into a limp motionless flat diet Pepsi. Enough said – Apart from ‘AWESOME’!!!!!

Man of the Match – One of the best team performances I have ever seen makes picking a man of the match very difficult. Three out of Fours for Mark Wood, Harjeet Singh, Jason Gilmour, Jon Millard, Dave Barrett and myself make up half the team – absolutely awesome.  Four out of fours for Shane Thompson and Avy Singh were the highlights and means 8 of the 11 players having 3 frames or more!!! What a memorable day!!!  Truth is I cant pick between the two.  Shane produced some solid dishes as did Avy, who is rejuvenated, since he’s had work on his eyes – best decision you’ve ever made mate.  So Im giving the man of the match to them both equally.  Well done to Shane (2nd month in a row) and Avy!

Next Match – Another biggy, Cornwall Away.  Id love to say all the hard work has been done, but it hasn’t.  Were just two points in front of Cornwall.  Im sure you will all understand it will be difficult to tinker with the team after such a great performance.  Ok we have the easier run in after this game but we cant leave anything to chance.  A defeat may even see us drop to 3rd as Devon has to play Wiltshire.  Therefore as always I expect 100% and us going for the win.  We win this one lads then you can start to pack your cases.  That should be incentive enough for this one.
