Bristol B 23-21 Cornwall B

At The Three Crowns, Bristol, 19th April 2009

Match Report – Not sure where to start for this report to be honest.  Were we poor in the first two sets?, yes. Were we lucky to turn it around?, yes. But did we deserve the win?, yes.  This was a massive kick up the ass for us and we have to kick on now and show just how dominant we can be in all sets not just when we dig a hole for ourselves.  Six players lost two out of two, effectively giving us a handicap of being 12-0 down. I don’t think I’ve ever had to drop five players before until now, but credit to the reserves that did an awesome job in fixing the damage that was created.  We started appallingly going 7-2 down in the first set before Mick and I made it remotely respectable going down 7-4. Much of the same for the second set, losing it 7-4 and a 14-8 deficit at home for the first time in a long time.  Mark Court kicked off the third set with a win to make the gap 5 frames at 14-9 then Benji called for food. I used this as a perfect opportunity to down cues and have a twenty minute break. Other teams have used this to there advantage previously and now it was our turn. I called all the current players into the match room and let you all know what I was expecting. This seemed to give us the impetus we needed to march on. A brilliant 8-3 third set win set us up at just 17-16 down with the dreaded fourth set to play.  Things weren’t going our way in the fourth set losing it 4-3 making the score 21-19 to Cornwall.  There was no turning back at this point and four superb wins from Avi, Bawattt, Mick and myself gave us the win by the skin of our teeth. Lets not paint this up, we were very lucky! But lets use this win as a springboard to go on and win this thing for the third successive time.

Man of the Match – Not many great performances this month. I have to give Dave a mention, who came straight to the game after a flight from Tunisia and looked solid winning 2 out of 2 when we needed it the most to stay top of the pile. I also managed to get my third 3 out of 4 in a row to stay second in the rankings. Mick produced a solid 4 out of 4 to move up to 5th spot and for me is the player you all need to watch just to learn how to make sure you get those wins under your belts!!  Man of the match goes to Avi Singh for a great four out of four on his first game back and a black in the middle, out of a snooker.  Great stuff!!

Next Match – Away in Dorset.  We cannot afford any complacency in this game lads.  Every team is winning big against them and we have to make sure we do the same. So heads on, no quick finishes unless your 100% sure your going to do it! Remember you’re the better players so bide your time and win your frames, don’t give them any easy shots.
