Devon A 20-24 Bristol A

At Rileys, Plymouth, 22nd March 2009

Match Report – Away to Devon has always been the hardest fixture of the season and for many, many years has eluded us. Last years draw was the key to us winning the region and the best result I’ve known in Devon in the 11 years playing for Bristol.

As the game started we went 5-1 down straight away, putting ourselves on the back foot, we stuck together and fought just like we did at Yarmouth to scrape past losing the set 6-5. Devon continued to maintain the lead and although we kept getting close to level with them they would just pull away again, winning the second set by the same score 6-5, giving them a total of 12-10 lead at the half way point. I’m not quite sure what happened after that it just seemed like we woke up and started playing some class pool smashing Devon apart and quite clearly winning the whole match in just one set! Set 3 was a 9-2 On slaught and put us in the lead and leaving Devon wondering what just hit them! We finished the match with an outstanding 24-20 win away! No doubt that win will go down in our history books, so well done to everyone!!!

Man of the Match – Superb all round performance from the whole team, everybody bar one, won 2 or more, if we done that every game we could never lose!

But our newly crowned England International Ken Edwards showed again why he made it into the England squad with a superb and solid 4 from 4, giving him 7 from 8 against the strongest 2 teams in the region behind us of course! lol

Well done Ken and well done to every player in this side, a massive team effort by all, just what the doctor ordered.

Next Match – The next match is home to Cornwall, this is a potential banana skin, we must keep the belief, keep focused and keep on our toes! DO NOT and I mean NOT think we are home and dry, we cant afford to become complacent, we have won the 2 only games that we never won last year, away to devon and home to somerset so now is the time to turn the screw. Unfortuantely I am away in sunny Portugal, Ken will stand in.

Cornwall are currently top of the region, lets change that! A win on Sunday will make us leaders and clear favourites! COME ON BOYS do this one for the basher!!
