Bristol B 26-18 Somerset B
At
the Three Crowns, 1st February 2009
Match Report – What a start against a
team who truly believe they can take the regional title from us this year. I still maintain Devon and Cornwall are the ones
to beat, but it’s nice to put a team back in line. We showed why we have won this title two
years in a row and why were defending a national championships. We started off the blocks strongly winning
the first set 8-3. I purposely put our
new recruit Matt Bull on first as I knew if he got the win under his belt we
would have silenced them from the start and that proved to be the case. They had no answer to our superior class and
superior team spirit. We continued with
7-4 second and third set wins, opening up a commanding 22-11 lead. The win was in the bag and Somerset was
literally stunned. We then extended to a
26-13 lead with five frames left. I have
to hold my hands up here and say I think I got in wrong. I allowed us to stop for food!!, we let our
foot off the pedal and lost the last 5 frames to win the match 26-18. We are renowned for doing this. I think I rather us starve and wait until the
end and get a few more points on the board.
I don’t know what the answer is, but Ill be looking for things to
change. It was an awesome result which
finds us in third after the two big boys played Dorset & Wiltshire. Were in a strong position and we just need to
make sure we carry it on.
Man of the Match – Its going to be hard
to pick a team against Devon!. 3 out of 4 went to myself, Colin Chilcott, Shane
Thompson and Bawaaat!. A very solid 4 out of 4 going to Marcus Foster after a
stint in the A team, good to have you back Cous!!. But my man of the match goes to Matty Bull.
You only need to ask skinny how hard it is to play your first match against a
team you’ve not only just left but left for a stint in a B team!. Skinny lost
both frames I gave him that day. This
year, Bully showed his quality and put his nerves to one side to get a massive
4 out of 4. Quality mate, good to have
you on board.
Next Match – As always our biggest
game of the year, Away against Devon.
Something I haven’t managed to achieve yet as Captain and many others
before me is an away win against Devon.
It’s the only thing I haven’t achieved and it would be very VERY nice to
complete the clean sweep!! As I said its
going to be hard to pick a team, but I do intend to try and give some of the
players a chance that did not play last month.
With a squad this size, it’s the only way. Lets get that win boys!
