Bristol A 24-20 Somerset A

At the Three Crowns, 1st February 2009

Match Report - The fixtures seem to be in our favour again this year, but it meant that the first game of the season could have been potentially a banana skin, we are the regional chamions we know that, but it’s easy to get complacent after winning, It was important we didn’t do that. Somerset had many new players and it was clear they were up for the challenge, they thought they had a real chance to challenge this year and the way they started this match it was looking as though they were right. Somerset cruised into a 5-1 lead, until Alex Leggate stopped the rot turning the match around at such an early point! We finished the first leg winning 6-5 and continued the same in the third giving us a 12-10 lead at the half way point.  I got to mention my fluke at this point as it set the tone for the third leg. After snookering myself on the black and almost potting the black on two occasions out of the snooker it was a a case of third time lucky as the black sunk in off the yellow, lifting the team into a frenzy and banging in 8-3 leg at one point we went 20-12 up and cruising.

Then no sooner did my fluke start the leg off in the third the horrific miss I had in the last did the same as Somerset started taking there chances from the few mistakes we made. Flacky, Ken and Alex who were all playing for 100% record of 4 out of 4 all lost, as we stepped of the gas a little. Finishing the match with a confident 24-20 win. A statement made, that last year was not a fluke and we are here to stay.

Man of the Match - A quality all round performance from all the lads showed just why we are regional champs and will be there at the end of this year fighting for the same title, but this months man of the match goes to Alex for a solid performance in his first game back as an A team player in a few years, he showed how much it meant to him at the trials and proved just why he made the team at this match just missing getting all four.

Next Match - Away to Devon another monster, it’s early days but a win in Plymouth would leave region 6 chasing us, we have more team spirit than any team I’ve ever known and absolutely no one can match us, lets keep it going all the way through the west country next stop PLYMOUTH ding dong!
