Match Report – Bristol B 24-20 Somerset B

Great to be back chaps after my holiday last month.  Thanks to Kevin and Ricki for standing in at the Dorset game.  It was always going to be a tough game against a much improved Somerset outfit.  They knocked us back a little last year after we managed a 23-21 win and we knew we were in for a game.  That didn’t change after the first set when we found ourselves behind 4-7 and I have to say they seem to silence us a little (lets not let that happen again please!).  The shock seemed to take us up a gear and we got back to winning ways with a 6-5 second set win.  However at this point they were holding there own to lead 10-12 at the half way stage.  We needed a good start to the third set and got it, racing into a 3-0 lead to lead the match for the first time 13-12.  We went on to win that set 7-4 and a repeat 7-4 win in the fourth set saw us take a 24-20 win and the 5 bonus points.  Well done to everyone in this game, it wasn’t easy but again we showed the sign of a great team by doing what we have to do to win.  Lets keep that mentality going.

Man of the Match

No contest this month. There were, as always, many good performances. Terry and Kevin’s three out of four shouldn’t go unnoticed. Dan’s four out of four would, I feel, normally get you a man of the match award.  But I have to say that Rhinos three out of four was top drawer and he gets my man of the match for this month.  It was like watching the Rhino of old, who had a prolonged spell in the A team a couple of years back. Awesome mate im looking forward to seeing more in Wiltshire ;-)

Next Match

Our next match is away against Wiltshire, which brings itself a different type of pressure as Devon or Somerset.. Yes were expecting to win but the pressure experienced is by how much should we win by.  Last years away match saw us take a 27-17 win and we have to be looking at bettering that to continue our form.  We’ll be going there as National Champions and will look an intimidating force to be reckoned with as they sit bottom of the table dreaming for just a taste of what our team have experienced in the last 12 months.  Lets not disappoint them and turn up to do a professional job on them.  We sit 16 points behind Devon going into the final game of the half way stage and with Devon playing Cornwall we can eat into that lead with a solid display.

Finally, can I just say that I didn’t hear from THREE players this month and didn’t know if they were going to the Somerset game (and as a result they will lose there place in Wiltshire).  This makes a hard job even harder and I need to know if you will be attending.  Its not fair on the 16 other players who go out of there way to contact me if I put these players in above them in the pecking order.
